Officials, experts and entrepreneurs from China and Brazil met on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro to promote closer cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Jointly organized by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) and the Brazilian Association of Chinese Enterprises (ABEC), a seminar, themed "One Belt, One Road and One River," focused on the prospects of cooperation in the development of projects in sectors such as energy, society and urban infrastructure in Rio de Janeiro in partnership with China.

The seminar aimed to help the Brazilian city to realize a better understanding and connection with the BRI, which was propsed by China in 2013.

EVANDRO CARVALHO, Teacher & Coordinator of China-Brazil nucleus study of FGV school of law:

"The purpose of organizing this seminar is firstly to bring Brazilians the knowledge of the Belt and Road Initiative, to let them know what it is. We should know that, for example, within this concept of 'Belt and Road' there are the five connections including connectivity and structure, financial integration, free flow of trade, people exchange, coordination of policies, and how this is being presented by the Chinese government."

According to Evandro Carvalho who is teacher and Coordinator of the China-Brazil nucleus study of FGV school of law, Brazil is among the countries which have benefited the most from the BRI because of its importance and size in Latin America and the booming economic relations with China.

Yang Wanming, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, also attended the seminar and  spoke highly of the relationship between the two countries.

YANG WANMING, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil:

"China and Brazil are two large developing countries. We have great potential of cooperation in many areas. The Brazilian government is also encouraging a broader opening, opening the market for infrastructure and public facilities to foreign investment. This provides an opportunity to integrate the development strategies and projects of the two countries."
