Malaysia eyes opportunity to become regional hub for growing trade under BRI, says PM

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) will increase trade between Southeast Asia and China, and Malaysia is looking forward to serving as a hub for greater exchange in that region, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said. 

Mahathir is scheduled to visit China to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation from April 25 to 27 in Beijing. 

During an interview at his office, the 93-year-old prime minister told Chinese media outlets that the purpose of his upcoming visit to Beijing is "mainly to strengthen the relationship between China and Malaysia."
