Chinese company contributes to building the largest in Middle East refinery of Kuwait

Chinese SINOPEC Fifth Construction company is constructing New Refinery project(NRP) in southern Kuwait, which would be the largest refinery in Middle East.

SINOPEC Fifth Construction company is NRP's sub-contractor. Once put into operation, the project will increase the Kuwait's oil processing capacity of 31.5 million tons of crude oil per year. It is considered as the contribution of the Chinese company to helping the Kuwaitis to achieve their development vision under the China-proposed Belt and Road initiative.

Kuwait is one of the first Arab countries to sign a cooperation agreement with China under the Belt and Road Initiative. In 2016, SINOPEC Fifth Construction company, adhering to the principle of “Chinese Intelligence”, undertook the NRP project with a contract value of 519 million U.S. dollars. The main task of Chinese company is to install three sets of 10.5 million ton CDU and three sets of 2x2.75 million ton ARDS.

The contract period is three years, starting from 2016 to the end of 2019. The Chinese company has overcome various challenges and difficulties, like the bad local natural environment, the safety risks of thousands of employees, as well as the management difficulties.

The Chinese company developed innovative management methods, strengthening on-site safety and quality control to ensure the construction of the project. 

SINOPEC Fifth Construction company is fully committed to building a Chinese brand on this project and demonstrating the quality and speed of “Chinese intelligence”.
