BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region saw more exports of agricultural products in the first two months of the year, according to the latest data released by the Urumqi Customs.
Xinjiang exported about 1.21 billion yuan worth of agricultural products in the period, surging 41.2 percent year on year.
In the first two months, the region recorded 17.12 billion yuan of import and export value, down 14.6 percent year on year. In breakdown, its exports amounted to 13.1 billion yuan, up 1.1 percent year on year, while its imports stood at 4.02 billion yuan, down 43.2 percent year on year.
The region saw significant growth in exports to countries such as the United States, India, Vietnam, Italy, and Thailand during the period.
"Exports of mechanical and electrical products maintained growth, and agricultural products increased significantly. Exports of agricultural products were 1.21 billion yuan, showing signs of recovery," said Wu Wei, an official of the Urumqi Customs.
It is reported that the Urumqi Customs has taken measures, such as expanding exports of Xinjiang characteristic agricultural products and improving the port business environment, to promote healthy development of the region's agricultural product trade.
